Five ways to enter the country

Most foreign nationals require a visa. Below are the categories and what each one permits.

Visitors from the following ASEAN member states can enter Myanmar visa-free for up to 14 days:

Brunei Darussalam Cambodia Indonesia Laos Philippines Singapore Thailand Vietnam
02 Tourist visa USD 50 · up to 28 days
  • Stay duration — up to 28 days
  • Validity from emission — 3 months
  • Tariff — USD 50

03 Type A — Embassy visa Apply through any Myanmar Embassy

Visas can be obtained at any Myanmar Embassy or consulate. Most embassies maintain a website with downloadable application forms. If there is no Myanmar Embassy in your home country, Bangkok is the most convenient alternative — visas there are typically issued within two full working days.

04 Type B — E-Visa USD 50 · up to 5 working days

All international travellers can apply through the official Myanmar E-Visa portal at evisa.moip.gov.mm. The E-Visa charge is USD 50 per person by credit or debit card and is non-refundable if the application is rejected. An accepted or rejected response is delivered within one hour; if accepted, processing takes up to five working days.

At the immigration counter you must present:

  • A completely filled arrival card
  • A valid passport with at least 6 months remaining validity
  • A valid entry visa issued by the Myanmar Embassy (must not be previously used)
  • Stay extensions are applied for through the Ministry of Immigration and Population with a recommendation from the relevant ministry
05 Type C — Visa on arrival USD 50 · 30 days · select nationalities

Tourists with ordinary passports from the following countries are granted Visa on Arrival at Yangon, Mandalay, and Naypyidaw international airports (effective 1 October 2019, periodically extended):

Italy Spain Australia Switzerland Germany Russia China
  • Fee — USD 50 per person, maximum stay 30 days
  • Tourist visa is granted solely for the purpose of visiting
  • Extensions are not permitted under this category
  • Visitors must abide by the existing laws and procedures of Myanmar
  • Free to visit permitted areas; restricted areas are excluded
  • Entry may be refused if visitation is not allowed by Immigration or related ministries
  • Departure permitted from any international gateway

Remark. Chinese tourists from China have been eligible for Visa on Arrival since 1 October 2018.
