For visitors to Myanmar
Five ways to enter the country
Most foreign nationals require a visa. Below are the categories and what each one permits.
01 ASEAN visa-free entry 14 days · No application required
Visitors from the following ASEAN member states can enter Myanmar visa-free for up to 14 days:
02 Tourist visa USD 50 · up to 28 days
- Stay duration — up to 28 days
- Validity from emission — 3 months
- Tariff — USD 50
- An original photograph is required on each layer of the visa request and the arrival form
- Arrival form — 1 specimen + photograph
- Visa request — 2 specimens + original photographs
- Extension — possible but not always granted; overstay is charged at USD 3 per day
03 Type A — Embassy visa Apply through any Myanmar Embassy
Visas can be obtained at any Myanmar Embassy or consulate. Most embassies maintain a website with downloadable application forms. If there is no Myanmar Embassy in your home country, Bangkok is the most convenient alternative — visas there are typically issued within two full working days.
04 Type B — E-Visa USD 50 · up to 5 working days
All international travellers can apply through the official Myanmar E-Visa portal at evisa.moip.gov.mm. The E-Visa charge is USD 50 per person by credit or debit card and is non-refundable if the application is rejected. An accepted or rejected response is delivered within one hour; if accepted, processing takes up to five working days.
At the immigration counter you must present:
- A completely filled arrival card
- A valid passport with at least 6 months remaining validity
- A valid entry visa issued by the Myanmar Embassy (must not be previously used)
- Stay extensions are applied for through the Ministry of Immigration and Population with a recommendation from the relevant ministry
05 Type C — Visa on arrival USD 50 · 30 days · select nationalities
Tourists with ordinary passports from the following countries are granted Visa on Arrival at Yangon, Mandalay, and Naypyidaw international airports (effective 1 October 2019, periodically extended):
- Fee — USD 50 per person, maximum stay 30 days
- Tourist visa is granted solely for the purpose of visiting
- Extensions are not permitted under this category
- Visitors must abide by the existing laws and procedures of Myanmar
- Free to visit permitted areas; restricted areas are excluded
- Entry may be refused if visitation is not allowed by Immigration or related ministries
- Departure permitted from any international gateway
Remark. Chinese tourists from China have been eligible for Visa on Arrival since 1 October 2018.
